I like to put the occasional article on this website about things that many of us have wondered about, but don't learn in most churches. These topics are not so much taboo, as they are uncomfortable for some. If you take a gander in the sidebar, you'll see I've already written on such topics as dinosaurs, aliens, hollow earth, three heavens and three hells, and more.

Yesterday, one of my children's friends asked one of my kids what the end of the world would be like. Well, all my children have studied that, so they had a great conversation. It was so cute. They were all sitting on our deck in a circle, talking Bible. I loved it. I stayed out of the conversation, and just relaxed in my deck chair, with my feet up, looking at my book.

When we have questions, perhaps about eschatology, demonology, soteriology, etc, we should turn to the Holy Scriptures for those answers.

Today's topic - What are Demons?

"Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" -Matthew 25:41

"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." -Revelation 12:9

The word "demon" isn't in the King James Bible. This is for good reason. According to the word origin and history given at Dictionary.com, a demon was defined as a "lesser god, guiding spirit, tutelary deity." In some pagan religions of past and present, demons are not viewed as evil spirits, but as spirit guides and helpers. However, as Christians, we know demons are devils, and they are all evil, because they all fell with Satan, and they are followers of Satan. We can see this in the above quoted Scriptures.

Further, the King James Bible is more accurate by using the word 'devil,' as opposed to 'demon,' because that helps us make the mental tie between the devil, and his devils. This makes it obvious that the fallen angels with the devil - "the devil and his angels" in the above Scripture quotes, are devils. We have THE devil - Satan "called the Devil, and Satan," and then we have the fallen angels - devilS.

False gods of cults, non-Christian religions, and apostate Christianity are all devils:

"They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not." -Deuteronomy 32:17

Look at the phrase "came newly up." Certainly, it means 'new gods' for new religions and such, but I think it can also have a super literal meaning - literally came UP.

There are some devils that are locked in chains inside the earth, and they cannot come up, for they are imprisoned:

"For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment" -2 Peter 2:4

"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day." -Jude 1:6

Some of the fallen angels created human/devil half-breeds with earth women, and that's why some of these devils are in chains in hell:

"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown." -Genesis 6:4

Now, let's look at other places devils are. Not all the devils were locked in those chains in prison. We know this, because many devils possessed/possess people. For example:

"And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way." -Matthew 8:28

Some religions teach that devils can be removed out of people, via exorcism. Exorcism is a sad joke, and NOT the way, as is clear in the Bible:

"Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded." -Acts 19:13-16

Some religions today boast having successfully "exorcised" demons out of people. I've got news for you. The devils didn't come out, they just pretended to, in order to get a firmer stronghold in its victims. The victims being not only the possessed, but also the exorcist and his followers. In cases like this, the exorcist and devils are in league with one another, howbeit, in many cases (not all) the exorcist is ignorant of this fact.

A devil cannot be exorcised out of a person, it must be cast out:

"When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick" -Matthew 8:16

How devils are cast out:

"And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour." -Acts 18:16

There have been cases of unbelievers casting devils out in the name of Jesus. You can read a modern day account of such experiences in some of the books by William Schnoebelen. We read in the Bible of those who called themselves Christians, did good works, and cast out devils, but were not saved:

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." -Matthew 7:21-23

Salvation doesn't involve rituals, traditions, good works, and following some set procedure and plan, as laid out by some church. It involves a RELATIONSHIP with Christ. This is why God said "I never KNEW you." Their good works were as dung, because they were doing it TO be saved, instead of doing it because they were saved (because they weren't saved) - "depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Ponder the below:

"For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way." -2 Thessalonians 2:7

Most churches have a part in this Mystery of Iniquity. This is WHY it is SO important to read, study, and know the Scriptures for yourself.

We've so far established that some devils are locked in chains inside the earth, while others are inside people. Some are in outer space and the skies, masquerading as UFOs, aliens, grays, other world spirit guides, etc. This is part of the reason why Satan is the prince of the power of the air:

"Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience" -Ephesians 2:2

This prince - the devil, also pulls the strings of Vatican, and other behind the scenes world powers:

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." -Ephesians 6:12

"High places" above denotes places of power, but also denotes literally high - in the sky, as per Ephesians 2:2.

NOTE: Satan is also the "prince of the power of the air," via the air waves - television, certain internet sites, music, etc. The most corrupting influences on people are what they view on TV, what they read on certain internet sites, and what they listen to via certain music.

Now, recall the earlier Scripture we looked at, Deuteronomy 32:17. Remember, part of that Scripture said "new gods that came newly up." We established that the false gods are nothing more than devils, and that as new religions, sects, and cults come about, more devils step into the place as a god or gods for those false religions. However, "new gods that came newly up" can also be taken more literally. Just as demons fly in our skies and dwell inside people, they can also dwell inside the earth. Some "alien abduction accounts" are not of people being ushered into spaceships, but into underground caverns. If you haven't put two and two together yet, here it is, real quick - aliens are devils. Are you a born again Christian? Perhaps you are not, and you refuse to confess the name of Jesus. This isn't permanent. You eventually will, whether it be during this life (in which it will save you) or during the next (in which you will be cast into the lake of fire).

"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." -Philippians 2:10-11

Every THING that has a mouth and knees, and the ability to confess - meaning - all humans, angels, and devils, will confess Christ, whether they be in heaven, on the earth, or inside/under the earth. If you have not confessed Christ as your Lord, then please click here.
