If you know the Bible, then you already know the source. It is none other than Satan. He is the great deceiver:
And the devil that deceived them... -Revelation 7:10a
The devil is the father of lies, and the first murderer:
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. -John 8:44 - Jesus speaking to those who didn't/don't believe in/on Him.
Satan's name originally was Lucifer, and he was a high angel of God. Angels were given free will, just as humans were. Satan let himself become prideful, and as you know - pride cometh before the fall. Satan was cast from heaven:
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. -Isaiah 14:12-15
What did Satan do, after he fell? One of things was to begin his attack on God's great love - us. Satan went to the Garden of Eden:
Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. -Ezekiel 28:13-15
Jesus mentioned how he saw the fall of Satan:
And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. -Luke 10:18
After God created Adam, he gave one rule for Adam and Eve to follow:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. - Genesis 2:17
Satan changed the Word of God, when setting out to deceive Eve. Satan twisted God's words, and said the following:
Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? -Genesis 3:1b
God said - "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it." Satan changed God's word, and said - "Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"
This didn't work on Eve. She knew the Word of God. She yielded the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17), and corrected Satan's twisting of the Word of God.
This isn't the only time the Word of the Lord had been twisted. It has happened many times. It's one of Satan's greatest tactics of deception. The devil is so cocky, he tried this very trick on Jesus Christ Himself. In Matthew 4:6, Satan tried to trick Jesus into going against God's plan for Him, by quoting Psalm 91:11-12. Jesus is the Word of God in flesh (John 1:1 and 1 John 5:7) so of course He knows the Scriptures - He is God (1 Timothy 3:16). Jesus correctly used Scripture as the Sword of the Spirit, against the great deceiver, by correctly quoting Deuteronomy 6:16.
Unfortunately, after one hears a corrupted version of the Word of God long enough, one may start to believe it. Satan again misquoted the Lord to Eve. God said - "for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." - Genesis 2:17b
Satan said the opposite of what God said. The devil said - "Ye shall not surely die." -Genesis 3:4b
Eve didn't counteract Satan this time. Instead, she looked at the tree, saw how desirable it was, and she decided to break the only rule God had for her and Adam, and partook of the fruit. Adam was with her, and partook as well.
They died. First, they died spiritually, and eventually, they died in the flesh as well. They lost eternal life in the Eden paradise. The King James translators gave an alternate, more literal translation in the margin of "for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." -Genesis 2:17b
The more literal, alternate translation by the KJV translators can make it clearer. It is this - "for in the day that thou eatest thereof dying thou shalt die."
The day they ate of the forbidden fruit, they died spiritually, and their bodies were no longer eternal, and began to age and slowly die.
The world is full of the living dead. Most people living on this earth are dead. To inherit eternal life in heaven with the Lord, one has to be born again. That is the only way:
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. -John 3:3
Most people will choose not to be born again, when given the opportunity. Many will choose false paths, which will only lead them on a scenic path to hell:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. -Matthew 7:14
Satan, the current ruler of this corrupted kingdom, the god of this world in its cursed state, will do everything he possibly can to prevent people from truly becoming born again:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. -2 Corinthians 4:4
Satan has a great many ways of blinding the minds of them that believe not. He gives them false religions to believe in instead, he changes the Word of God, and he is the great deceiver. Be sober in mind, body, and spirit, or he will devour you:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. -1 Peter 5:8
Here is how to be born again:
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. -John 3:3-18
Born again is the same thing as being saved. Here's how to be saved:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. -Romans 10:9-10
Are you born again? If not, will you choose so, right now?
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. -1 Peter 1:23

Back to Adam and Eve...
The moment Adam and Eve disobeyed the Lord, the curses mentioned in Genesis chapter three took over, and more... Satan became the god of this fallen world:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. -2 Corinthians 4:4
Satan is the also the prince of the power of the air, and he is behind corrupted rule:
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience. -Ephesians 2:2
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. -Ephesians 6:12
Born again Christians are no longer of this world. They have died, and were born again, to become new creatures in Christ:
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. -John 3:3
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. -2 Corinthians 5:17
The born again Christian is no longer of this world:
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. -John 15:19
This world, in its fallen state, is currently under the rule of Satan. Christ will come back, and when He does, this world will again be established as God's Kingdom, with the curses removed. See Revelation, chapters 19-22.
Notes
1) Due to the fall of man, Satan is currently the god of this world
2) This world, under the curse, is Satan's kingdom, but when Christ comes back the second time, He will lift the curse, and bring the Kingdom of God and His Christ to the earth
3) Adam and Eve died spiritually when they partook of the forbidden fruit
4) The spiritually dead condition of Adam and Eve was passed on to their children, through the generations, so we are all born spirutually dead, born into the kingdom of Satan, under the curse. This fallen state makes people prone to falling for Satan's trickery, and following after the ways of the world.
5)When a person becomes a born again Christian, it is a spiritual birth, where they are made spiritually alive, and are in the world, but not of it
6) Satan is the prince of the power of the air, and behind wicked rule, and spiritual wickedness in high places
7) The devil and his minions will look for weak spots in people, and then attack. The Christian must remain sober in mind, body, and spirit, else the devil will devour him
8) One of Satan's main tactics of deception is to change the Word of God, even if ever so subtly
