Oregano oil is a powerful antioxidant. It contains around 30 times more antioxidants than oranges, and about 42 times more than apples. These oregano oil antioxidants help destroy free radicals that cause cancer, strokes, and heart disease. Antioxidants are also known to slow the aging process.
Oregano oil is an anti-viral. When you are suffering from a tummy bug or a cold, taking several drops of oregano oil (I like taking mine in a tablespoon of lemon juice) three times a day can make for a quicker recovery. I've often "dodged" colds, by taking oregano oil at the first sign of a cough or sore throat.
According to a study done by scientists at the University of West England in Bristol, England, oregano oil has stronger antibacterial properties than many, if not most, prescription antibiotics. This herb oil is also considered powerful enough to possibly kill the antibiotic-resistant MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus). Oil of Oregano has been used by people all over the world to kill many forms of bacteria. In a personal experience of mine: it took out a urinary tract infection that I had, in just two days. Also, I once got a double ear infection, and this oil took that out in two days, as well.
I treated the UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) by taking several drops of wild oregano oil in a tablespoon of lemon juice three times a day. I did the same with the double ear infection, but I also put a mixture of olive oil and oregano oil into both ears three or more times per day, as well.
Because of its amazing antibacterial properties, oregano oil is a fantastic ointment to put on wounds. You may want to water it down with something like coconut oil first; else it may cause an intense burning sensation.
According to Drugs.com, oregano oil can also eradicate Proteus, Salmonella, E.coli, and the Helicobacter pylori bacterium, which is thought to cause peptic ulcers. This amazing oil has also been known to cure the "incurable" painful gastritis, which is sometimes caused by the Helicobacter pylori bacterium. However, there are cases of gastritis that show no sign of said bacteria, yet oregano oil seems to help gastritis in either case.
Oregano oil is such a powerful antibiotic, because it contains thymol and carvacrol, which are two phenols that act as powerful antiseptics.
The good news with this herbal oil doesn't stop here. We've only scratched the surface. It is also an anti-fungal. It has been found to kill yeast infections, Aspergillus, Candida Albicans, the Penicillium fungi, and more. To treat internal fungi infections, take several drops three times a day - I suggest in lemon juice. It will be spicy, so have some water or milk ready to immediately gulp down as a chaser. To topically treat fungal issues, simply spread a few drops of the oil on the area. If it gives too much of an intense burning, then quickly rub on a little bit of olive oil on top, and next time dilute the oregano oil with a bit of olive or coconut oil. Everyone's skin is different, and different oregano oils have different strengths, so you'll need to experiment to find what works best for you.
Oregano oil is also an anti-parasitic. The carvacrol and thymol phenols in this oil have been shown to kill internal and external parasites, such as hookworm, roundworm, tapeworm, pinworm, and various skin mites.
According to the Wolfe Clinic, oregano oil can help with fibromyalgia and CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome).
Many people have reported this oil helps a lot with RA (rheumatoid arthritis). People who use this as a therapy, rub the oil on the inflamed areas, and many take it internally, as well. Many people with RA have reported wonderful results with oregano oil. Some use this oil as their sole medication.
A good quality wild oregano oil is antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, an antioxidant, an analgesic, anti-parasitic, and is also an anti-venom. Immediately applying straight oregano oil to a venomous bite, as well as taking this oil internally, has been reported to give good results. I have no personal experience with this to back this up, but I believe its anti-venom properties to be true and strong.
Speaking of personal experience, I mentioned above that I've successfully gotten rid of a urinary tract infection and double ear infection with oregano oil. I forgot to mention something else - teeth. I had an infected tooth that needed a root canal, and it was hurting pretty badly. I knew that if I could kill the infection, the pain would go down, if not completely away. I had a dentist appointment, but wanted to reduce my chances of needing to take an antibiotic, so I used oregano oil for a few days until my appointment. I put it directly on the tooth a few times a day, I put it on my toothbrush with my toothpaste when I brushed, and I took it internally. After two days, the pain was gone. That tooth is now root canalled, but I am grateful to the powers of oregano oil for making me more comfortable, while I waited for my dentist appointment.
To prevent future tooth infections and decay, consider brushing your teeth with a bit of oregano oil added to your toothpaste or tooth powder. Or, you can put a few drops in a bit of warm water, and use it as a mouth rinse.
I believe this oil is a gem, and should be in every first aid kit, in every medicine cabinet, and in every purse.
You can usually get good oregano oil from health food stores, or you can buy some online from such places as BodyBuilding.com, or Amazon.com. This stuff has been shown to fight cancer, viruses, bacteria, venom, fungus, and more. I say, keep this stuff around.
