For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. -1 Corinthians 11:10

What type of power is a woman to have on her head? The King James translators provided a note for this verse:

a covering, in sign that she is under the power of her husband

1 Corinthians 11:2-16 is about the Christian head covering. Christian women are to cover their heads, and Christian men are not to. Long hair is not the covering. Click here to read a Bible study on the Christian headcovering.

What does the Christian woman's headcovering have to do with the Black Thread? Remember, verse 10 says "because of the angels." We see in 1 Corinthians chapter 11 that Christian women are to cover their heads to show submission to their husbands and God. Now we also see that they are to do it "because of the angels." What angels?

Part of this may be because of God's angels. In the book of Daniel, angels are sometimes referred to as "watchers." I believe this is an accurate word to think of in regards to 1 Corinthians 11:10. Angels watch us. If angels watch us, then I would think that they should see us obeying the Lord in our Christian walk.

Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation
-1 Peter 1:10-15

In biblical terminology, "conversation" goes much further than just talking. It means behavior as well. Our "conversation" is how we act. A holy manner of conversation - behavior, shows the world and angels that we are Christians.

You may still be wondering what this has to do with the Black Thread. I believe "because of the angels" includes the fallen angels, and that's where the Black Thread comes in. The fallen angels see head covered Christian women with their heads covered, and there they see women that are under the physical and spiritual protection of their husbands and of the Lord. This can be a spiritual shield, or barrier of protection. For a woman, it is like a physical reminder of the shield of faith:

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. -Ephesians 6:16

The shield of faith is not a physical one. When a Christian has saving faith in God, that faith can work as a shield, protecting the believer from the attacks of the evil ones. A woman's headcovering can be like a shield of faith. She shows her faith when she wears it. She shows she is wielding the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17b) because she is following the Word of God. She is showing she has on the helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6:17a) because the headcovering is meaningless, unless the Christian woman is saved.

The headcovering reminds the woman that she is under the authority of her husband, not under other men, and not under the fallen angels. In Genesis 6, we learned about women who allowed themselves to be under the authority of some of the fallen angels/devils. That didn't turn out too well.

The Christian headcovering is one of many facets which exist to protect against certain spiritual attacks, and more.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. -1 Peter 5:8

We must be vigilant. We must watch and observe the spiritual battle around us. Let us desire to walk with the Lord not with the world.

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. -1 Thessalonians 5:5-6

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. -2 Timothy 2:15

The fallen angels mated with human women.

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. -Genesis 6:1-2

I don't believe all of the fallen angels did the above. The ones that did are in chains in outer darkness.

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment -2 Peter 2:4

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. -Jude 1:6

There are still fallen angels around, who did not commit the above sin with earth women. We'll learn more about some of their tricks later in this series. Meanwhile, because of the angels the woman should have power (authority, a covering) on her head. This shows her submission to her OWN husband, and to the Lord.

For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. -1 Corinthians 11:10

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. -Colossians 3:18

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. -Ephesians 5:22-23

But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. -1 Corinthians 11:3-5
